Somatic Coaching

”The human body is not an instrument to be used, but a realm of one’s being to be experienced, explored, enriched, and, thereby, educated.” -Thomas Hanna

Somatic, or mind-body coaching, is a holistic and organic process in which the client is able to discover a path of somatic, energetic, emotional and spiritual fulfillment. We focus on supporting the inherent somatic intelligence of the client to be able to take consistent action towards what they most care about - “life moving toward life.”

These 60 minute sessions will learn to listen to your body so that you can give it the support it needs to metabolize stress and trauma. We will work together to learn the language of your own body through navigating sensations and changes in your breathing.

My approach is somatic- meaning I will hold space for you to feel, not just understand your emotions. It is my belief based on years of practice that healing occurs through the body, not in the mind.

As with the other techniques I facilitate, these sessions serve as a tool to support self-regulation of your emotions, unblock stored emotions while supporting the processing and integration of them, healing your nervous system and building inner capacity by increasing your window of tolerance and stress resilience, cultivate inner safety, improve interoception, embodiment and somatic awareness and so much more.

What is somatic coaching?

Somatic coaching is an approach to coaching that integrates the body, mind and emotions to help individuals achieve their goals and make positive changes in their lives.

  • It is based on the fact that the body and the mind are interconnected, as are physical sensations, emotions and thoughts.

What should I expect during a session?

We will spend time really getting clear on your intentions for the session(s), as well as nurturing rapport, trust and ease between us so that you will feel comfortable. In the session, your body will be engaged and included through a wide range of embodiment practices- breathing, moving, sensing- just as your heart will be invited to speak freely, developing more vocabulary and confidence to honor your emotional experience.

We will explore what meaning you have tied to these experiences, listening from the body rather than the mind. We will inquire if there is any desire to make change and what that may look like in action. Action and integration are an important step to coaching.

What are some of the benefits of Somatic Coaching?

Somatic coaching can be helpful for a wide range of issues, including stress management, leadership development, and even trauma, as trauma is stored and reexperienced mainly in the body. Overall, it helps clients develop a closer relationship to their bodies.

What should I expect after a session?

It can be uncomfortable, freeing, joyful, tearful, clarifying, loving, and so much more, but ultimately it is the experience of embodiment which can only be felt. It will differ for every individual. Your intention for the practice will guide the practice and its outcome.

Coaching is never meant to take the place of medical/therapeutic care.
